By pure chance I took a break on the trail, and looking into the trees, caught a sight of this pit viper about 5 feet away. It was coiled quietly on a leaf, waiting, I'm guessing, for an unsuspecting bird to eat. |

The trail was near-vertical in some sections, requiring climbing up ropes that were fixed in place. Coming down was best done in rappelling fashion, though not as fast. |

Due to the high elevation along the top ridge, the flora looked more like Vermont than a jungle on the equator. The temperature was downright cold at night; probably about the mid-fifties (F). Great for hiking, and proved to be the only place that was leech-free! |

Being a rainforest, it rained. The views were exactly zip. |
