Gunung Mulu Summit Hike Photos

By pure chance I took a break on the trail, and looking into the trees, caught a sight of this pit viper about 5 feet away. It was coiled quietly on a leaf, waiting, I'm guessing, for an unsuspecting bird to eat.

The trail was near-vertical in some sections, requiring climbing up ropes that were fixed in place. Coming down was best done in rappelling fashion, though not as fast.

Due to the high elevation along the top ridge, the flora looked more like Vermont than a jungle on the equator. The temperature was downright cold at night; probably about the mid-fifties (F). Great for hiking, and proved to be the only place that was leech-free!

Being a rainforest, it rained. The views were exactly zip.
