Marvelous Mosques

Completed in 1676, this mammoth mosque can host over 60,000 people!

Although not as impressive as the large city mosques, the structures in the smaller northern towns were almost always colorful and, well, almost cute.

Perhaps it would be annoying after a few years, but while you're staying in these small towns, you're always awoken in the morning by the prayers from the mosques ringing up and down the valleys.

This one rocked. The entire outside surface, the towers, and most of the inside are entirely covered with colorful mosaic tile work.

The digital camera strikes again: showed some pictures to the caretakers, and they let me up in one of the towers for this cool close-up of the tower tile work.

This larger-than-usual mosque for a small village sits below the jagged peaks of the Hushe Valley.
